Vessel hit by projectile 13 nautical miles off the UAE
A vessel was struck by an unknown projectile about 13 nautical miles west of Al Jazeera, UAE, on 9 October, UKMTO said; a fire on board was put out.
What it means: Maritime security sources said the strike was outside the Hormuz area, a widening of risk; a tanker was hit off Qatar, also inside the Gulf, days earlier. Two shipping and security sources named the ship as the laden supertanker GEM NO.2.
